Forums » Input, Adapters & Controllers » Axis Fix For ANY Dance Pad

If you're not in the default theme, or not on 5.0.8, that's probably why you're not seeing the option.
Here are some screenshots hilighting the things to pick in the service menu.

Where do I find download for 5.0.8 ?
When I go to download section of this site only option is 5.0.7 and that version do not contain that option in menu

Edit found it

Ok so I tryed to use Axis Fix option in Advanced Input options

Seems like it do not work anyway

When I press any button it registers correctly

When I press two buttons at once it do not register anything or all at once ?

Well I tryed to start song but it do not register most input at all as its hard to play with just one button pressed when you are used to shuffle :)
So no it didnt fixed anything for me

I still have the Axis problem too. I also have the Konami Pad for PS3. It connects fine to my PC. I also bought the mayflash universal adapter but it seem to not work at all. I tried motioninjoy but have to admit I dont quite understand how it works or it just doesnt. At least I can play but only without jumps, which is kinda boring. Any progress on how fix the problem with these specific controllers?

I am on windows 8, my pad has USB and does register as a gamepad. Any help would be sooooooo appreciated. I really want to play normaly again.
Thanks!!!

I've been looking and for now I can't seem to find any way to fix it. It seems your pad in particular likes to input as a POV HAT switch as opposed to an Axis. An axis has a special quirk where pushing both sides and not pushing anything input as a slightly different value which the AHK script can read and translate. An axis is analog, while a HAT switch is digital. There is no way to tell whether it is centered or both sides pressed. Unfortunately, for now I cannot offer a fix but hope to find one to help people like you in the future. I will continue my search but can't guarantee I'll find anything.

I happened to install Stepmania today and my two Gamestop multi-console (PS/GC/Original XB) pads have the same issue.

I have a pile of PS# -> USB Adapters, and each and every one those register as a hat. I also have adapters to convert the Original XBOX port to USB -- same result.

As luck would have it, I also have a PS2->Wii Classic Controller adapter (that I used for Tatsunoko vs Capcom) and a Mayflash Classic Controller (Wireless) to USB adapter (to make my PS2 fight sticks wireless on PS3 and PC).

When I plugged in my pad to the Wii adapter and then the Mayflash, it registered the pad arrows as buttons. I was able to use the pad to register more than one direction at a time.

My PS2->Wii Adapter is this one: http://www.dx.com/p/playstation-2-ps2-to-wii-controller-adapter-13-5cm-cable-23206#.VXvX0dNVhBc (I cheaped out and did not get the one from Mayflash - I don't know if the one from Mayflash works)
My Wii Classic -> USB is like this: (there are non-wireless models available from Mayflash also) http://www.mayflash.com/Products/NINTENDOWiiGC/PC047.html

It is jumping through a couple of hoops to make it work, but thankfully, it worked for me. There might be additional latency because I'm using a wireless adapter, but I am not good enough at the game to notice.

Your mileage may vary.

Hope that helps!

--edit/addendum

One thing I did not test is attaching the pad and using a Wiimote wirelessly with a Mayflash DolphinBar. That might work too. If I get around to testing that, I'll post my results.

-- second edit

I decided to retest everything, and it turns out that I actually misremembered some of my original results as I only remembered that I couldn't enter two directions at the same time. As mentioned above, my pads are old Gamestop dance pads with outputs for PS2/original xbox/Gamecube. I don't happen to have any GC->USB or GC->Classic Controller adapters, so I was not able to test those.

1 - My generic PS2-USB adapters registered as Axis
2 - My original xbox-USB adapter registered as Hat Using XBCD drivers (recognized as a RedOctane Ignition Pad)
3 - My Dolphinbar HID Mode 3 registered as Hat using the PS2->Classic Controller Port Adapter connected to a WiiMote
4 - My Mayflash Wireless Classic Controller -> USB Adapter registered as HAT + Buttons 14-16 using the PS2->Classic Controller Port Adapter. The HAT and buttons register simultaneously, but for me, Stepmania prioritizes the button press over the hat.

Because solution 4 worked for me without an Auto Hotkey fix, I'm opting for that over the Axis fix.

His comment was written, before I patched in what I learned about that strange behaviour you AHK script showed me. I have altered it a little to possibly work with a greater variety of adapters (so that it is centered if it's greater than 0 but not 1 and both buttons are pressed if it's less than 0 but not -1) and I would say it needs testing for multiple adapters, as I am not 100% sure whether all adapters which map the D-Pad to Axis have this kind of behaviour. For people using POV-hats I can only tell them they could try the Dance Code (Start, Select and Up arrow all together for 3 seconds), if they haven't tried yet. Also there was really good page summing up every possible solution to that, however it looks like I can't find it anymore.

Hi! I'm using the blue adapter, and a PIU dance pad (I know, don't hate) with the up down left right buttons alongside the regular controls. When I started the script, it detects Joy1, and a Joy3 (there's nothing else, I swear), I'm not pressing any buttons, and it keeps typing wsadwsadwsadwsadwsadwsadwsadwsadwsadwsadwsadwsadwsadwsadwsad. What am I doing wrong?

It may be because it's having a hard time due to the fact that it's a PIU pad instead of a normal DDR pad (extra buttons may be confusing the script).
