Went on down the line renaming appropriately and now it cant find the swscale.so.2 (corrected: the readme file in the dl link you gave cut off the "scale" in the name libswscale location)
Now it's giving me
libGLEW.so.1.5: cannot open shared object file: Permission denied
Should I have changed its permissions to something else before i moved it to it's proper location? because I cant seem to change the permissions because im not "root" apparently...

Edit: oh wait thats the one thats already there... should i change its permissions somehow?

libGLEW.so.1.5 should be readable by everyone, but only writable by root. Its owner and group should be root. You'll have to use root powers to change it now.

I didn't change anything about the libGLEW file, I've only looked at the properties.

I was describing the permissions that should be set for it.

WE DID IT! OMG IT WORKS! Now how do you add it to the applications so I can link it in steamos?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "add it to the applications". I can't install SteamOS to take a look at it because I don't have an NVidia video card. I personally run it from the terminal all the time anyway, (along with every other program), so I don't really see the problem with running it that way.
If you do find a way to add non-Steam things to the applications, look for a way to set the "current working directory" that is used when running the application, and make sure that is set to the stepmania directory.

As a side note, since I made that build, you're one of ~5 people with a build capable of running the Consensual theme that I make.

Surprisingly It shows up with the normal start screen/theme. I changed the video settings from windowed to full screen and changed the resolution to 720 and now its not recognizing inputs from anything on startup. I got it working and now I've already broken it. Is there a way to change back to windowed mode from outside the game?

In game, Alt+Return will toggle you between Fullscreen and windowed mode.

If that (somehow) doesn't work, you can set Windowed=1 in your Preferences.ini file (~/.stepmania 5/Save/Preferences.ini).
