songs in appdata, wat, who's stupid idea was that

Mine. Appdata doesn't have write permission problems and you can put everything else there anyways.

still a dumb idea to me, cuz appdata should contain data that normal users shouldnt edit in my opinion, like songs need to be in the program folder because you edit song and place them in there because a load of packs get released in .zip files so ya
Its not a bug its a FEATURE!

nothing the user will change, period, should be in program files. that pretty much makes windows throw bricks at you.

it'd be better to load things from my documents/stepmania or something (from a user perspective), but things are as they are just so that it's all in one place.

you could also use portable mode.

you could also use portable mode.

use portable mode, install on a drive that's not C:\, and suddenly, you have the classic StepMania experience again. i highly recommend it (if you know what you're doing). :v

still putting songs in appdata is silly as hell

oh you want to add songs to stepmania, its in this hidden folder you normally didn't even know existed nor needed to cuz its supposed to contain information you don't have to edit manually

also I got all my stepmanias in portable mode, cuz I like to reinstall my windows now and then without losing all my content, or put sm on an hdd to take it with me to somewere else

also Kyzentun, if its on linux its still in the hidden .stepmania folder, still silly

I've known that folders and files starting with dot are config files and general data and how to access them since the day I started using linux ~13 years ago. Go blame whoever wrote whatever shitty guide you read if you think they're that special and hard to access. (or your shitty desktop environment, I have no idea whether guis make them easily accessible)
More importantly, from here it looks like Windows will lie to the user and let them install stuff in Program Files, but behind the scenes actually create a fake folder that actually is inaccessible for everything the program tries to do in Program Files. That kind of shit doesn't happen on Linux.
