http://www.stepmania.com/wiki/file-formats/sm Here's the current doc for the .SM format.
Thanks for this, it helped a ton.

I have already requested it 2 years ago, but a translation tutorial would be very handy and would possibly encourage people speaking strange languages to roll their own.

Some key points about this could be:

  • What to translate? Which files are language specific?
  • How to properly add a new language (e.g. not by overwriting the default english files).
  • Translating pictures.
  • Creating sprites for special character sets.

The USB Axis Problem is wreaking havoc amidst forumers nowadays. 1 2 3.

There should be an AIO guide to point them to instead of writing down the same things every time.

Hey shakesoda.
I was wondering if I could get permission to edit the wiki. I want to actually put something on the .SSC file format screen. :P
I've been messing around and discovered some things about it.
<YungDaVinci> but what does it mean
<YungDaVinci> what is kyzentun
<Kyzentun> It means Kyzentun.
<Jousway> what the fuck is a Kyzentun

I'd like to see some more basic information on installing files: songs, courses, etc. I've managed to get songs installed, but I can't seem to get a single course to show up inside SM.

Installing courses is similar to installing songs. It should look something like
../StepMania 5/Courses/CourseName/CourseName.crs
Could this be the solution to your issue?

Updated the first post to reflect your request though :)

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't noticed the need to have a folder for each course before. I can get the courses to load now, Hooray! For syntax, I think the .crs tutorial on the old wiki is pretty helpful and should be moved over to the documentation here. I don't know if there are meaningful changes that need to be made, my courses are pretty simple. Also it might be worthwhile pointing to the default .crs files on github, or showing more examples some other way. Thanks again!
