I recently bought 2 ps2 foam DDR dance mats, they work in my ps2 but I wanted to play step mania with them so I bought some ps2 to ps3/pc adapters I found on ebay. Plugged it all in and when the drivers are installed they come up being read as "ps3 controller" Well I kept going on, opened stepmania, went to config, and every time I went to input a button it would immediately get read as "button 13" before I could even push anything! I opened up my game controllers and went to its properties and yeah, the 13 button just keeps blinking at me over and over again saying its being pressed when its not.

The dance mats I bought are from DDR Game and said they would work on PC :( I found fixes for axis problems, but found out very quickly that isnt the fix im looking for. Id really like to think I didnt pay so much for these mats for nothing. Maybe its just a crappy adapter?

Have you tried going into TEST INPUT and test all the buttons on your pad. Even though 13 keeps showing up if you press the arrows you should be able to see the correct input shown as well. If this works then you can manually open the keymaps.ini file and key in the proper inputs for each arrow there. Hopefully that works.

Don't buy cheap adapters, especially from ebay. It's seriously worth it to spend the extra money and pick up a better adapter. Basically anything made by Mayflash will be your best option both in terms of it working properly on the latest windows and still being easy to purchase online.

One problem is that just because you spend more on adapters doesn't mean they will work. Many adapters simply won't work with dance pads due to axis problems, then add in windows / mac support 64bit OS whatever and even then the best adapters still add lag, following a DIY control box guide is recommended by me.
