Hello!

I got the blue double adapter. I bought it without knowing it was "only for pc" and I own a MAC. BUT it works!! I have that axis problen tho... How do I fix it ??

Thanks :D

AutoHotKey doesn't have a mac version, but you can try to see if it will work in Wine (it runs windows programs on Mac devices). If that doesn't work then there is no fix at the moment.

but there was easy universal solution i remember. some rawinput_ps3_ddr.exe it was work perfectly for PS3 ddr pad. just needed always to run this exe before game. if someone still has this file share pls. cause i need not only for stepmania, also for Cryp of the necrodancer.
I am always open to easier fixes, so if someone does still have this file please do share it!

I still have the Axis problem too. I also have the Konami Pad for PS3. It connects fine to my PC. I also bought the mayflash universal adapter but it seem to not work at all. I tried motioninjoy but have to admit I dont quite understand how it works or it just doesnt. At least I can play but only without jumps, which is kinda boring. Any progress on how fix the problem with these specific controllers?

I am on windows 8, my pad has USB and does register as a gamepad. Any help would be sooooooo appreciated. I really want to play normaly again.
Thanks!!!

I've been looking and for now I can't seem to find any way to fix it. It seems your pad in particular likes to input as a POV HAT switch as opposed to an Axis. An axis has a special quirk where pushing both sides and not pushing anything input as a slightly different value which the AHK script can read and translate. An axis is analog, while a HAT switch is digital. There is no way to tell whether it is centered or both sides pressed. Unfortunately, for now I cannot offer a fix but hope to find one to help people like you in the future. I will continue my search but can't guarantee I'll find anything.

His comment was written, before I patched in what I learned about that strange behaviour you AHK script showed me. I have altered it a little to possibly work with a greater variety of adapters (so that it is centered if it's greater than 0 but not 1 and both buttons are pressed if it's less than 0 but not -1) and I would say it needs testing for multiple adapters, as I am not 100% sure whether all adapters which map the D-Pad to Axis have this kind of behaviour. For people using POV-hats I can only tell them they could try the Dance Code (Start, Select and Up arrow all together for 3 seconds), if they haven't tried yet. Also there was really good page summing up every possible solution to that, however it looks like I can't find it anymore.

I actually found the AHK file from an old Stepmania forum post, which was still accessible via some obscure link several pages in on a google search, (it exists on the servers but is no longer accessible in any visible way from the actual website). The page was obviously discontinued, missing half of the page graphics and formatting. I did not write the script, but am totally open to anyone with the know-how to edit it and make it better. I would give credit to the original poster, but can no longer find that obscure page I found it on. I don't play Stepmania/OpenITG as often since I graduated high school and life has gotten busy (also why I pop in every so often and reply to comments, then disappear again).

I have a ddrgame metal energy pad that I jus broke out after not playing stepmania for years. Bought it many years after my ddr prime maybe 3-4 yrs ago, but still had quite a bit of fun with it for about 6 months before it went in the closet. I had it running on a vista machine from 2008 that I have since trashed, but saved all the song packs. Anyways, got brand new stepmania 5 release installed on a windows 7-x64 with dance packs and was super stoked to play just to find out my 4-1 ddrgame converter is messed up. Contacted ddrgame about it, said its plug and play and should work with windows 7 32-bit and basically said go fly a kite because they don't have drivers and their is nothing they can do to help me if it doesn't just automagically work. Don't know why its not working, plug it into computer, windows update goes looks for drivers, and can't find anything...So with no help from retailer and don't speak Chinese, I'm screwed. SO KINDA PISSED AT THEM RIGHT NOW, but long story short, I had a blue dual usb playstation 2 adapter that I bought ages ago (probably in like 2004) and plugged the pad into that (since it has ps2,gamecube,sbox adapters as well) I was super excited because windows recognized it right away, got keys manually mapped and OFF I WENT!!! SUPER STOKED, just to find out, I couldn't pass a song for the life off me... NOT super stoked. I'm glad to know that my beer laden almost 30 yr old body isn't the only culprit for sucking, but a couple hours off wasted time later messing with dance pad codes, researching axis controllers, trying to figure out WTF, I find myself here. I tried these fixes and I unfortunately seem to be in the same situation as some of you where my axis coordinates don't change and therefore the whole autohotkey joy mapping thing won't work... I'd really like to get stepmania into my daily repertoire again... I got in really good shape playing this game daily in high school along with strength training and would like to do the same now... kick my lazy as back in gear and drop 25 lbs. Anyways, I digress. My questions:

1. Is the problem my PAD or the USB adapter? I'm guessing adapter, but just confirming.
2. Anyone use the ddrgame 4-1 adapter with the 15-pin cable? Did ddrgame F$%@ing me over, or is there something I'm doing wrong here? Anybody have success with this (without the additional PS2 converter)?
3. I don't mind dropping $10-15 bucks on a new adapter of playstation, xbox, or gamecube variety (beats the 200-300+ I'd spend on a decent metal pad), but what is one that will work. Preferably out of the box.
4.As a last resort, wouldn't mind buying a second pad, at least in the meantime until I figure out a fix. That way, I can play doubles!!! Always wanted to play doubles back in the day, but had no money and trying to play doubles on those cheap ass pads from 2004 was next to impossible. Any recommendations? Seen a lot of mixed info, most of it is 5+ yrs old and this is the most recent forum posts I have seen.
5. Anybody is awesome to give me some advice and help me get back into shape. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, I have borderline high cholesterol and I'm not even 30 (quite yet)!

Oh, BTW, the USB adapter looks identical to all the twin blue ones out there, but don't know if its the same since its so old. Maybe they have new firmware???

That would probably be an issue with the 4-1 adapter. I actually do now own a DDRGame Energy metal pad, and from my experience the adapter box is very shoddy and not made to last. My start button came slightly broken, where the button pushes funny and half the time double presses in one press. You can buy a new one from the official website.
I actually recommend trying to get a used CobaltFlux or RedOctane metal pad instead of a new DDRGame. They don't build pads like they used to.
And also, there are a few different version of the dual blue adapter I have pictured, and some work well while others don't. So you can either buy a new 4-1 DDRGame adapter box, or you can get this adapter, which properly supports all controllers including dance pads and wheels:

If you were able to at least push buttons on the pad going through a console connection to USB adapter, then it is definitely an issue with either the adapter box or drivers on the computer. You should also try uninstalling the drivers while the device is plugged in, and then unplugging the device and plugging it back in. If they claim plug n play, it may be a bad driver install. I've had it happen a few times on other devices.

As far as the 4-1 goes, it's weird. When I plug it in, it recognizes something is plugged in and looks for drivers. In device manager it just shows up as base device and 3 unknown devices. However, if I delete the devices and drivers and scan for hardware changes they still show up, but with no driver info so its weird. I definitely think you are right though. Something wrong with the 4-1 and don't want to give them any more of my money for another crap converter. I will try the one you recommended for my current pad which is still in pretty good condition. No issues with the pad. I will look into the other suggestions for a used pad. Doubles could still be fun.

I have been using this fix for a long time. But when i tried to use it today it dident work. the input is registered outside of stepmania as arrow keys, but inside stepmaina nothing happens. If anyone has an idea as to why this is i would love to hear it.
