I just bought a gamesis dance mat off of ebay and it will only recognized it as a "usb input device" I have tried everything all night, can anyone please help me figure this out!
If your computer recognizes it what's the problem? Have you tried the latest version of StepMania (previous version of SM5 didn't work with input devices). Plug in the pad and go to joypad and troubleshoot and step on arrows to make sure everything in the pad works, then in StepMania go to Options - Configure Inputs and use the arrows on your keyboard go to each input and press ENTER then step on the appropriate button on the pad.

It reads it as a usb input device instead of a controller, it doesn't actually work as any sort of gamepad..the button presses aren't registering at all, if you don't respond to this in the next couple hours I will give you a call.
Close this thread whenever you can, I figured it out..had to use an older version of stepmania...thank you very much PrayerWarrior.
NP, I'm just a huge fan of StepMania, you can also get the latest SM5 and it will work as well.

I used to play Stepmania 3.0 way back and just started getting back into it. I used to play using the keyboard but I have an old DDR Extreme dance mat for the PS2 that I am trying to get to work on windows 7. I've tried to PS2 to USB converters (One of which brought drivers which didn't help.) When I plug in the mat I get a ding telling me that the computer recognizes that something is plugged in but I get no input from the mat. I went into the testing section in SM5 and it is not registering the input at all. Also tried in steam to see if by chance that would pick it up, nothing. I've unloaded my drivers for all my USB devices and had windows re-install them. Nothing. I've looked online and through the forums here but can't seem to solve this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
