A few months ago I was playing a version of Stepmania called "Beware's DDR Extreme Simulation" with an old original xbox dance mat from Gamestop and a classic Xbox to USB converter. I got As and AAs consistently on Light mode, but now the buttons will not consistently respond to my steps.
More recently I bought a DDRGame Master non slip pad from Amazon to replace the old mat. It responded after some fiddling with my Windows 8.1 laptop, and still required tape to stay in one place during play. However, the mat still doesn't respond to every step I take.
I did search around a bit, but didn't see a thread that explicitly talked about my dance mats in particular not working properly. The most relevant ones said that buying a metal pad was the way to go, but I'm unsure if I should invest over a hundred dollars into this particular hobby.
Is there any particular reason as to why my dance pads don't work properly? Do I have to buy a new one? Or is it somehow just user error?
