Control Box 9 pin

I just purchased the wrong one ( I didnt see that there was a 9 pin and 15 pin option in the red button control box ) and i'm wondering if a 9pin to 15pin adapter would work or do I just have to return the control box and get the 15 pin one ? This is the adapter i've ordered, it'll fit in to the control box and connect it to the pad, but will it work ? Thanks guys.

It seems it works, but 3 of my 'buttons' ( left, right, and down ) are not registering as existing / working in the device properties, it is registering as a USB dance pad and is being improperly mapped in stepmania, is this a result of the 9 pin being split to a 12 pin that i'm messing up the connection ? or is there something simple i've missed ? Thanks :(
