PS2 Buzz! Controller For Lights?

I'm wondering if there is some way to use the light controller in these controllers for use with StepMania? The PS2 controller is a simple USB hookup (it's also detected in Windows). I hear there's a PS3 variant, but I'm not sure if it's the same thing or not (it's probably the same concept, but I only have the PS2 one available).
