After having tons of issues getting this pad to work with windows 8.1, I decided to make this guide.

Konami Dance Pad

Step 1: First we need to disable driver signatures on windows 8, follow the guide posted below or simply

While holding shift down, select Restart > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart > Select option 7: Disable driver signature enforcement

or follow this guide

Step 2: Download XBCD 0.2.7

XBCD 0.2.7

Step 3: Make sure you run, and install all these programs AS ADMINISTRATOR, it's very important.

Install XBCD 0.2.7 As Administrator (say yes to prompts)
Restart computer (may not be required at this point)

Step 4: Right click bottom right windows icon or hit Windows Key + X > Go to Device Manager

Step 5: At bottom of the list you should see "Xbox 360 Peripherals", expand the list and you should see "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows" (if you don't see it plug in your pad)

Right click > Update Driver Software > Browse my Computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer > Have Disk > Browse > Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\XBCD\Driver (may be different if you changed install directory), follow warning prompts installing anyway.

It will ask you to restart. (Restart)

Step 6: AS ADMINISTRATOR (right click > run as admin) > Start XBCD Setup Utility (from start menu or XBCD directory)

Either download this setting file > Click "Open" and navigate to where ever it is located, then save settings. Or manually set them.

To manually set them there will be a D-Pad box, change these from POV, to buttons. I used buttons 12, 13, 14, 15. Then save.

Step 7: Set buttons in stepmania. this should be simple but make sure you don't overwrite the left settings, there are blank alternate key spaces you can use, Bind Left, Right, Up, Down, Start, and Back.

Everything should work now.

Thanks so much!

This is the best guide I could find to get my mat setup with Windows 7.

As a note for future readers, it's unnecessary to disable driver signature enforcement in windows 7. Also, for me, "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows" was not in the category of "Xbox 360 Peripherals", it was under a different category. Make sure you find "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows", and don't use the "HID-compliant video game controller" or whatever it's called, that won't work, it has to be the "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows".

Also, it's important to update the driver exactly as Zeeth says: "Right click > Update Driver Software > Browse my Computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer > Have Disk > Browse > Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\XBCD\Driver (may be different if you changed install directory)," I tried doing it another way and it didn't work. It didn't work until I did "choose from list of device drivers...." then "Have Disk"

I did everything said above.
XBCD do detect when I press buttons on my Pad.
BUT, I cannot change ANYTHING.
Whatever I do I cannot change the freaking settings of this program.

I also want to point out that this line
"Either download this setting file > Click "Open" and navigate to where ever it is located, then save settings."
Is very unclear. Clicking Open will execute it. And to where ever it is located? You are already where it is located if you are executing it.

But yea. The problem for me right now is that XBCD is just being a bitch to me.
Everything worked. The setup, updating and changing drivers, everything. buuuuut... XBCD won't let me change the settings.
If anyone know what I am doing wrong, please tell me.

Edit: Never mind XBCD trash. I found something else that is wayyyyyy easier to do.
