Forums » Input, Adapters & Controllers » CF not registering some steps in multiplayer...

'Sup guys. I've got two Cobalt Fluxes and I've been using them happily for a good long while. Now only recently, during multiplayer, some steps (mostly jumps) don't register.
If they didn't work flawlessly before, I'd assume that my Stepmania lost the ability to recognize that many buttons inputted at one time, or that the second players stomps set off my panels (or mine to theirs).
●My mats work fine on my friends copy of DDR 2013 OpenITG, and my PS/2 titles work A-OK.
●In the test input screen, all 8+ panels can be pressed together without a problem.
●Everything registers fine in my device properties.
●Single, Solo and Doubles all work just fine.
●Around the time they stopped working, I set my Stepmania to run in OpenGL, but switching it back isn't helping,
●And lastly, and most embarrassingly, I'm running the good ol' ancient 3.9+ (Yeah, I get it.)

Thought I'd ask for some help before I try reistalling my SM. :9 It's been a bummer, since no one wants to play with me on my setup anymore due to this...
Thanks a ton in advance to anyone who has any suggestions--!

I don't know why, but this seems to fix a lot of errors involving errors that didn't use to occur but do know.
So try this. Where ever you installed stepmania, and move important folders to another location (songs, data, themes, etc. EXCLUDING program, only take what you need). Afterward, uninstall the program and reinstall it. Move the folders you took out back in, and if asked merge the folders. Finally, boot stepmania again.

Hmm.. Ended up doing that twice, but to no avail. Thanks a ton for the suggestion though. I might try once again without copying the Data folder, to see if that works. (But I really don't wanna loose my records and I like sorting by Players Best, so...)

Recently I had a few people try out SM5 with me to see if that works better and it registers just fine, so it really is only a problem in 3.9+.
While you're probably all rolling your eyes at me, I'd like to stick with it, since everything I have set up for it works best in 3.9+. (And I can't for the life of me figure out how to get rid of error messages displaying on screen in SM5.)

I realize that since it's an old version I'm not gonna get any support related directly to it, so I appreciate at least your response. If anyone else wants to respond, that's be greatly appreciated, but obviously not expecting it since I'm running an unsupported version.

The general rule is that if you have problems with SM 3.9, you can keep them.
If you want to use a version where people have fixed problems and added new things since 2005, you can use SM5.
If you read other threads in other parts of the forum, you'd know that the error messages are the result of whoever made the theme you're using making numerous mistakes and not bothering to fix them in the last 6 months. The solution is to use a theme made by someone who actually fixes mistakes, not one that's been abandoned for years.

That's kinda what I've come to understand. Thanks though. I might ask around a few other places. Just think it'd be nice to have my ideal/dream setup finally working. Haha.

Someone had a very similar problem with an Omega GX pad. Using a PS3 circuit board the software gave misses randomly, but it worked perfectly on SM5. It actually had the same problem on different PC's, running oITG, and StepMania 3.95, but it worked perfectly in StepMania 5. I have no idea why that happened either, I have the same problem using that circuit board with StepMania 4.

The solution would be to get a different circuit board for your dance pad or use StepMania 5. I sent the person a new circuit board for his Omega GX so he can play any version of StepMania he likes, but it's the strangest thing... It's about 1 out of 100 steps isn't registered but not constantly it's sporadic.

Oh wow, awesome. Wasn't actually expecting another reply. Haha. Thank you a whole ton.
I'll look into that and report back when I get it all sorted. And yeah. About 1 out of 100. That sounds about right actually.

If the theme you prefer was made by a dev, chances are it's been updated to work on beta 4.
