Redoctane Ignition Dance Pad - supported by Stepmania?

I just downloaded Stepmania 5 beta 4a for my PC which is running on Windows 8. Whenever I try to plug in my Redoctane Ignition pad, Windows gives me a message saying "The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it" and Stepmania doesn't seem to recognize it either.

I know this is an older pad but I've had it for years and it worked fine back when I ran an earlier version of Stepmania on my old laptop (Vista). Has anyone been successful at using this pad with Windows 8/new Stepmania?

I'd appreciate any help :)

You might need a powered USB hub or to try another port, that's usually what that specific error means.
