Oh, derp, I didn't notice the dot in front of stepmania!
Anyway, everything seemed normal in the log until I got to this:

That's the file I was trying to open. Not sure what "TEXTUREMAN LEAK" means.

I think you cut out too much of the log. Texture leaks (textures still referenced when the game exits or changes screens) wouldn't cause a crash in this case.
Sometimes log.txt doesn't have anything useful in it because the game crashed before it was written to. Check /tmp/crashinfo.txt if it exists, it should have a call stack and hopefully some other useful info.

I just compiled SM5 Beta 3, and I can open the file now. Thanks for all your help up to here!
