.sma to .sm to StepMania 3.9/oITG Convert?

Essentially, I want a song designed for PiU (.sma format) to run on OpenITG (with autogen steps to dance (4 panel) game mode).

I tried renaming the .sma as-is to .sm, and I also tried autogen-ing the steps over to dance on SM5 and then re-saving the file to get the .sm, which worked to an extent (beats seemed to be placed right, but the pauses don't work).

I imagine it's just a formatting incompatibility for why the pauses don't work (the song itself on SM5 has the pauses and works fine, but doesn't have them on oITG and thus beats go way off; oITG does support pauses though, seen them on a few songs I have).

Any ideas? Or perhaps maybe someone could convert that song and re-upload it if it isn't too much hassle?

You're not seeing the pauses in OITG because the pauses are only on the harder charts. OITG doesn't support per-chart stops, it only has support for stops that apply to all charts for a song. I don't know if the editor has support for copying the stops from the step timing to the song timing, but it's not hard to do if you're comfortable editing the inside of the .sm file by hand.
