Why does the fade take so long to quit a song?
What's the point in that?

To give the song time to end smoothly rather than being harshly cut off.
I had an instant exit in my theme for a long time, and it sounded bad because songs were created with a certain amount of fade out time, and exiting instantly sounded bad when it cut them off.

If you're talking about needing to hold down the back button to exit in the middle of the song, it's there for people that map the button to a corner on a dance pad, so they don't have to worry about exiting on accident. You can change it to not delayed by finding the "Back Delayed" option under "Input Options" in the service menu.
