and will it have stepmania direct like osu!direct: quick and easy access to search beatmaps without leaving the game. ?

and Automatic downloads when playing multiplayer, spectating others, or clicking links in chat!

I've had plans for a few of those things, but it wouldn't be happening for quite some time.

The SMOnline stuff is still in SM5; who knows if it actually works anymore though.

Very very distant future (like 2 years minimum), there'll be a more generic netcode and a framework for games (now "themes") to use the netcode in completely arbitrary ways, so that kind of functionality will be supported by the engine.
