To think about it, I first played DDR at a friend's party as he had a dancemat, and StepMania installed on a pc.
I was pretty wasted but didn't fail to realize the huge potential this game had. I searched the internet for DDR machines. Turned out there are no DDR/ITG arcade machines in hungary and never were (only PIU), so I searched for like-minded people, clubs, other options.
Next day I went to a DDR club which just had formed a week ago.
Turned out that quality people are interested in DDR and a few of them are still very good friends of mine.
Met my future GF there.
In a few months I moved away from home, had a job and was in a long-term relationship.
So if I think about it SM pretty much improved my life too.
Chris Danford must have hidden some magic in the source code.
I remember SM4 CVS was the hot shit then, but it was so buggy we used vanilla 3.9
