Hello, Welcome to Stepmania. The original Free and Open Source dance and other rhythm game.
In this forum, you can do some discussion about gameplays, assets, systems, and more. go ahead and explore.
Stepmania has plenty of songs. from easy bitsy into the impossible one. their format is .ssc. There are so many repository for this such as Zenius -I- Vanisher, Bemani style, and more. simply search Stepmania songs to find out.
There are also a lot of YouTube video of gameplay of it. they are various! played in a Keyboard, DDR pad, and somekind of novelty if you believe it.
Stepmania is not just a DDR simulator. They also simulates Pump it Up, Beatmania IIDX, Pop n Music, EZ2 dance, Dance Station 3DX, Dance Maniax, etc.
more mode will come in future.
Stepmania allows crazy amount of MODIFICATIONS such as Themes, Noteskins, scripts, and more. You can download them as well on the internet.
Stepmania is OPEN SOURCE, so if you are intrested in some improvement collaboration even just to make the songs, go ahead to Stepmania on GitHub and help them improve Stepmania.
You can also play online! Go to Stepmania Online webiste, register your account again there, open up your Stepmania game, create the profile which your username as same as in Stepmania Online. Then go to Settings > Network Option > Connect > type "www.stepmaniaonline.net" > back to main menu > play > login by select your username there > type password > done!. Make sure you have installed the songs as many as you want.
To install songs, all you have to do, download a pack of a songs or individual.
Install this way:
/.stepmania_5.0 <-- data folder
/Songs <-- song folder
/My downloaded song pack <-- A song must be grouped. read instruction.txt on that Songs folder
/My song <-- song inside the group
/Music.ogg <-- it contains music, chart, and bg image.
/Step.ssc
/Background.png
If you are on Windows =
%appdata%/stepmania(I think...)
If you are on Linux =
/home/your_username/.stepmania_5.0
it is possible to install it on
C:\Program Files\Stepmania, but sometime it will make Stepmania crash because the access is denied by the Windows. you have to allow full access that folder or
it is recomended to keep the instalation directory in
C:\Games\Stepmaniaso Windows won't bother so much that folder.
Speaking of iDance by Positive Gaming, if you want to know technical stuffs, iDance is not based on Stepmania. YES, they stated it themself.
However, you can ask the instructor to add custom song with your stepfile downloaded. yes, iDance can load custom songs as you can see somewhere in the YouTube.
