Default 4-player SM 3.9: Download now!

Updated: 7-2-07

Here's an update to the 4-player version of Stepmania 3.9 I've been working on. You can get it from this site:

http://cspotcode.wordpress.com/4-player-stepmania/

I've been able to clean up some stuff that was messy in the first release, and also do some more work on the theme. The evaluation screen is now functional, but not pretty. Also, the notes will shrink in 4-player mode instead of being crowded and overlapping so much.

Packages are available for Windows and Linux. (thanks to Vyhd for the Linux package)

The release consists of a custom executable and a modified default theme. Other themes will NOT work unmodified. (actually they might work, but you'll get lots of Graphic Missings, etc.)

Many thanks to Charles Lohr, who had experimented with 4-player before me. Viewing his diff file gave me a good idea of where to begin in my own project. Thanks Lohr!

Special Instructions:
- "Quad Versus" can only be selected when at least 3 players have joined.
- Don't try anything tricky, like 2-player versus with players 1 and 4.

Bugs:
- Player options screen crashes, so I made the modified theme skip it and only show song options
- Still some missing metrics.
- 3d dancing characters look like one of Intel's "multiply your possibilities" TV ads (actually, I consider this bug to be a feature)

Have you downloaded a copy? If not, you should try it out. When I say "incomplete", I don't mean that it is unplayable. In fact, it plays great!

If there's anything else you need, Mark, let me know. Thanks!

EDIT: broken link, see http://cspotcode.wordpress.com/4-player-stepmania/ for the current source code.

Full zip file in the same style as the Windows release with the necessary files for Linux. :)

Press Start for each player, then choose QuadVersus (the option all the way on the right, not regular versus).

Also, stupid question, but are you using the theme that is included with the 4-player version? This will not work with other themes.

If that doesn't help, give me a more detailed description of your problem and I'll try to give you a better answer.
