Gnome 2.28.1, or whatever the 9.10 Xorg release is. Not sure which one you mean by "window manager".

Are you using the Extra desktop effects setting? If so, you are using Compiz. If not, you are probably using Metacity.

I have just tested StepMania 3.9 precompiled download and it works, only sound cracks in the same way StepMania 4 SVN does in Ubuntu Karmic. I don't understand the way the conversation turned from underruns making sound cracking to a fullscreen issue, so if it's a sound problem, just use StepMania 4 SVN and launch it without pasuspender.
