I'm not new, but I'm not exactly what you call veteran either. I started playing StepMania about a year ago (Maybe more like 9 months).
I was also wondering if anyone could give me tips :p
I play keyboard (To lazy to get a pad, I run track everyday so I don't need to dance O:<), three fingers and trying a more spread out (Like AS JK). I have more accuracy but I forget I'm using two hands sometimes and it isn't pretty.

Three finger is ok. I my self can only do 9 step at max for three finger(kb max step 20 and it the only 20 step i beat). One thing for sure you should do is take off clap(and make sure judge 4 is on too). Just listen to it. This is a music rhythm game. Having something like clap dose not help tell your playing fast keyboard song (aka: spread files). Mostly, learn as you go. You are the best teacher. So learn form what you can do and try to improve it. With one handers. The hardest song that can be beat is Vertex BETA in Keyboard Collaboration 2( for what I have seen| video). I'm sure there are harder song that can be beat one handed.

I can do most practial simfiles and I use the arrows and use all 5 fingers.
