Default Dance Pad detection problem in Ubuntu

I'm trying to use Stepmania in Ubuntu because windows 7 won't recognize my dance pads. I couldn't get Stepmania 5.0 to play sound so I installed the previous version. Now the program only detects one of the pads. Ubuntu detects two seperate pads when I check. But Stepmania only sees the newer pad. Oh, if it matters these are two different models of Red Octane dance pads. One is slighly older than the other. Anyone have any advice on how to correct this problem?

I've discovered that the older pad works if it's the only pad plugged in. If I plug both pads in then only the newer one works. I'm using StepMania 3.9 by the way. When it compiles it says two pads are detected.

You have to compile SM5 from source to get sound on Linux right now. The binary was botched. SM 3.9 is no longer supported and has plenty of problems on new systems.

Okay. I've compiled 5.0 and it works with sound now. But I'm still having the same pad problem.

does the input test only show one pad at all? this sounds like it might be a driver problem.

Stepmania only shows one pad in the input test. When I use lsusb in the terminal I see both pads though.

I have the same problems on Ubuntu 12.04, building SM5 from source.

    • Both pads are detected by Ubuntu
    • Both are detected and work if used by themselves
    • Only one of them is detected if I have both plugged in

Looking at the start log of SM, it only shows one of the pads. Is this an SM detection issue?
