    Default 3.9+ on a Mac...

Oh yes. I've seen this brought up quite a few times over the past couple years with no solution and I'm raising 3.9 out of it's grave for a little bit.
So I believe that I should get a few things out of the way first.
-I am a bit picky with my themes, but that's beside the point.
-On a mac 3.9 is the most stable it seems.
-A couple of my simfiles (due to gimmicks) will not work on 4.0 (be it a1 or CVS) and they FOR SOME REASON work on 3.9, 3.95, 3.9+.
-I do not like certain aspects about 5.0, and on a mac absolutely NONE of the custom themes work. I'm staying clear of this version for a little while.
-The mac version of 3.9 seems pretty much like 3.9+ without roll support.
-There is a port of 3.95 for mac, but that entire build is rather dreadful.
-I have Windows running on my computer, but I can't hook it up to my TV due to lack of video adapter support.
-I have 3.9+ running flawlessly on CrossOver, but it doesn't recognize my pads.
    -I NEED ROLL SUPPORT

So right. I do not plan on buying a Windows computer any time soon. I have already realized my fatal mistake made years ago. We don't need to get into that.
So do the few Mac users out there have any solution to this? A good 3.9 with roll support on a mac? I know it's painfully specific, but I am hoping to figure this out. I would be absolutely fine with using 4.0 if it weren't for one or two songs.
So Mac 3.9+? Somehow get rolls to work in the current build? Anyone?
I feel a bit bad since I have no programing/compiling knowledge and I know everyone's worked so hard on 4.0 and 5.0. It can't hurt to ask though I guess.

    So thanks~

    MOVE ON FROM 3.9 ALREADY

Now that that's out of my system:

It is technically the most "stable". It's so outdated though.

That's probably because of the -BPM glitch in those versions. It got "fixed" in 4 and now can be replicated with #WARPS in 5.

You're not installing 3.9 themes on SM5 are you (spoiler they're not compatible)
Yoshi is better than Mario, and you know it's true

Beta testing at the moment. Good at pad? PM me for details.

Aha~ Of course not. Only the default theme works though. Granted the only one's I've tried are the ports by the SSC team, but every one of them crashes my StepMania 5.

I'll try to download the Mac port of 4 again, but I believe I've reinstalled both CVS and a1 rather recently. Hopefully I can play those -BPM songs again. I guess I'll update tomorrow.

I tested my songs in 5.0, but they have the whole mine>arrow transformation thing and while they do turn into arrows, I still hit the mines.

Thank you for your quick reply.

EDIT: AHA THAT'S FUNNY. I never took it off of BeatMania mode. :L No wonder no themes worked. k//tern's EPSILON works fine minus the bg and 5th mix as well. Still have the -BPM mine problem though... If I can get that fixed, on to 5.0 for me. ...Unless I can somehow get 3.9+. It's just... simpler.

I think that may be an issue with the chart itself. Which charts are you playing that have this problem?

If I make a terminal-based theme in SM5 will you think it's simpler then?

Could you send these to me? I want to fix any bugs there might be here.

I'm on a Mac and running 5, and it's absolutely beautiful! You must be doing something wrong if it's crashing everytime :/

Hey. Gonna bump this old thing for a little bit, just to hope that my research has failed me and someone does happen to have this. :P I hope too much sometimes.

So I've fixed a lot with SM5. Redownloaded the song I was having problems with, messed around with k//'s EPSILON theme to get the background to appear, and everything's pretty great.
But I decided to add to Random Movies. They don't play half the time like they did in 3.9, and the BGAnimations use a different format, so those are obviously not working for me either.
I'm also still obnoxiously picky with me themes and the only one that's caught my eye for SM5 is EPSILON, which was made for 3.9+ and I get bored. I also liked using Takuya's DDR themes for when I set up my StepMania at parties and whatnot, since it had the simple DDR Options menue, and everyone seems to screw up the settings too much when they have the full option access of most themes. I like to not stand by my DDR setup at all hours if someone messes everything up.

Now there's something that confuses me. 3.9 on Mac is different than on Windows. Really, it's better. It runs like 3.9+ does on Windows (minus the rolls). It runs k//'s 3.9+ themes flawlessly. So... Is 3.9Mac "Stepmania 3.9 and kinda plus?" Why wasn't roll support ported along with the theming support?

So for now I'm going to mess around with my computer and see if I can get my video drivers sorted out on my Windows, or I'll downgrade to 3.9 and move all of my ITG and custom songs with rolls to an external HD if I really want to play them. No real big deal here. I'm just picky when it comes to visuals and the theming community died with 3.9. I'm just asking again to hope for the best~

    Thanks guys.

3.9 for Mac, as far as I know, is plain old 3.9. I have no clue why 3.9+ themes would work on it, but if it works that's nice. If you want a simplistic DDR-like theme, the 5th Mix theme should work.

nice to know that all the work I did on themes for versions after StepMania 3.9 was pointless/worthless
