DDRGame Energy Pad + MacOSX (10.6.8) Help?

DDRGame Energy Pad + MacOSX (10.6.8)

I read some reviews which said it work with Stepmania and on a Mac and got this pad... received it today and plugged it in via USB and... nothing.

I am not technologically inclined. Is there something I need to do? There were no instructions with the pad and a google search just confused me more instead of answering anything!

ETA: Maybe I should add that it is the hard foam pad. I think they make different kinds and I'm not sure if that makes a difference!

Have you gone into the input test and controller configuration screens in SM options? That pad should work without anything other than mapping the buttons correctly, if it's not showing up it might be DOA. Have you tried with another computer?

EDIT: also, try another USB port if you can, sometimes the ports provide different amounts of power (they shouldn't, but some do)

Thanks Shakesoda! You were right, it was as simple as that - I didn't do the input test or map the buttons (I didn't even know you could do that!) Silly me, I thought out-of-the-box meant it'd just work automagically and was all confused. Derp! Thanks so much for setting me on the right path!

Anyway, awesome, I just played a few songs and am already sweating, haha. Looking forward to some Stepmania assisted weigh tloss!
