Need help setting up a SM5 Server

Hi,

I am trying to set up a StepMania 5 Server. I have the smonline.exe thing and have disabled sql but and have connected to the server ingame in the network settings. I do not see any way of playing online though. I tried starting a game with 2 computers connected to the same server playing the same song at the same time and the games just crash.

I recomend trying out http://opensmo.com/ its an open source version of SMO that only got released a few days ago and better than the original SMO in my opinion, They also have a help forum which can help with with their software :D

Thanks so much. Now I have another issue. I have installed OpenSMO and the server is running fine although the webserver isnt but I guess that is not such a big deal. My Step Mania 5 connects to the server fine but how do I join this chat that I should apparently have or join a game with other players.

if you log in to your server you can just chat by writing stuff and pressing enter, as for creating a room or joining use ctrl+enter, in the game self do /help for more commands in the chat :>

What do you mean by login? I have connected by typing the ip and port in the network options in game but pressing ctrl and enter it says loading profile then goes back to the menu. Do I need a special client?

you should be able to login by using stepmania 5 (3.9 doesn't support SMO) and first just putting the IP and port in the network options, then just starting the game normaly till you get to a profile menu, there you can select the profile you want to use to play online, if you dont have a profile you need to make one, after selecting the profile it will ask for a password, on OpenSMO it uses an SQlite database so you can make an acount when you login, so the password you use is the password for that profile name, after that a screen like the select music screen should show up, but instead with a load of Create Room instead of songs and a chat were you can chat

I just used OpenSMO, and it appears to work with no configuration. You do need to unblock it in the firewall, but I could connect and play a game. I didn't have any problems at all with the profile selection system, much less that problem. What theme did you use?

I was using StepMania 5 Alpha which didn't work when I pressed CTRL and ENTER together. I downloaded the latest nightly built and its now working fine. Thanks.
