Stepmania graphics and sound licenses

Hello from Germany :)

I'm planning to create a website about stepmania (guess which domain), and I am having a few questions related to the graphics and sounds used in stepmania.

- I wanted to modify some graphics from the stepmania 3 and 4 standard themes and use them on my website. Although I think i'm allowed to do that, I wanted to ask under which license the graphics are "used and distributed".

- Can I use the sounds and music in stepmania as background music, even if I have to modify them (cut and lower the sound quality) to save bandwith? Do I have to name the "creator" of the music? (like I have to do when using creative common music) ?

- Are the songs in the stepmixes distributed under a common license, or does every song have an own license? Again, am I allowed to modify them and use them as backgroundmusic?


Sorry about all the questions, but I haven't found any answers to this topic anywhere. The MI in Germany (GEMA) isn't any better than in the US, so I want to be certain that I can use the stuff without being put in a lawsuit.

1) The source itself uses an MIT license (which is pretty similar to BSD, but not the same)
