what is the best way to:

    1) sync a song with the notes very well?

    2) figure out the bpm of a song?

    here's what I do:

1.) put in a long row of 4th notes
2.) guess the bpm and play the song
3.) determine if the speed needs to be faster or slower
4.) repeat 1 and 2 until u have the bpm exact

*note: if your timing isn't that great, I would suggest not even trying to create a stepfile. The accuracy of the bpm and offset depends upon the accuracy of the person's timing

** If your timing isn't stellar but u still want to make steps, take song that is already stepped, go to edit mode, erase the steps (without erasing the bpm and offset) and ur good to go

    Download MixMiester:

    http://www.mixmeister.com/download.html

This is an excellent tool for songs with a single BPM.

For live songs, or songs with multiple BPMs, chop them up with an audio editor and use MixMiester to find each respective BPM, or beatmap the song. I wrote a little how-to at DDRPlace.com, but suffice it to say do everything that Foti suggested, but turn "Assist tick" on. Your ears will discriminate best between right and wrong BPMs.

It's a good tutorial and I use that method often. Of course, it isn't always that accurate.

For those who have bad timing like me:

    Use AssistTick.

assist tick only clicks according to the arrows. If the arrows are not synced, then the ticking will be off too. It won't really help with finding the correct beat.

Assist tick will, however, help your timing while playing songs that are already synced correctly!!!

That's the point. Change the BPM so that the clicking lines up with the music. Lookie: http://www.ddrplace.com/forums/viewt...hp?p=4748#4748

SM4 has the Metronome Assist Tick (Shift+F7). That's what you need.

Ditto. I would recommend to use 4.0's autosync features, but I have issues with them.
    My signature is screwed.
